2012 Saturn Awards – Nominees

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has announced the nominees for this year’s Saturn Awards. Coming on the tail-end of the Oscars, they almost hold two fingers up to the Academy, nominating the sort of film that wouldn’t usually get a whiff of recognition, all leading to a rather interesting set of nominees. If the presence of Limitless, Thor and The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t get you interested then there’s something wrong with you and check out that Best Supporting Actor category! However, I must warn you that Hugo has a vast dollop of nominations, but it’s alright when there’s so much love for Tintin and a nom for Attack The Block. Check out the full set of nominees below:

Review: Contagion (2011)

CAST: Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Ehle, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chin Han, Monique Gabriela Curnen, Sanaa Lathan, John Hawkes, Bryan Cranston, Elliott Gould, Brian J. O’Donnell.

SYNOPSIS: When a deadly disease starts spreading across the world, the speed and unpredictability at which it attacks leaves the human population helpless. Following different stories, some that connect and some that don’t, we see how this unknown virus affects individual families, doctors and the pressure that falls on the government.

Contagion’s main weapon lies in just how incredibly realistic the events that play before us are. These massive Hollywood superstars on our screen are no longer past and present Oscar contenders, but real people fighting for their lives. While it’s safe to say this film has acquired a cast most directors would give their left arm for, their ability to transform into your average civilian marks out just why.

Empire Big Screen Round Up

Last weekend I spent three days at the O2 in London at Empire Big Screen.

A weekend full of screenings, panels and special guests, there is too much to simply put into print. So I thought a video would do nicely.
