2012 Saturn Awards – Nominees

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has announced the nominees for this year’s Saturn Awards. Coming on the tail-end of the Oscars, they almost hold two fingers up to the Academy, nominating the sort of film that wouldn’t usually get a whiff of recognition, all leading to a rather interesting set of nominees. If the presence of Limitless, Thor and The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t get you interested then there’s something wrong with you and check out that Best Supporting Actor category! However, I must warn you that Hugo has a vast dollop of nominations, but it’s alright when there’s so much love for Tintin and a nom for Attack The Block. The 16th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards – Winners

No War Horse here. And what about The Tree Of Life, the most visually stunning film of the year?! And what was honestly so impressive about the production design of Bridesmaids? Yes, the wedding itself looked pretty cool, but apart from that it was all cakes, giant biscuits and more cakes – and projectile vomiting and diarrhoea. Check out the winners below and see if you think predicting the Oscar nominees is any easier: Continue reading

2011 London Film Critics’ Circle Award Nominations

I really like these nominations. Possibly more than any other batch so far, simply because the LFCC have been willing to think OUTSIDE THE BOX. It’s not a hard thing to do, but The Golden Globes (whose nominations I haven’t even posted) could seriously learn a thing or two here. Drive and Tinker Tailor lead the way and more recognition has been given to Margaret and A Separation. The best category has got to be Breakthrough British Filmmaker Of The Year – how would you even start to judge that?! Check out the full list of nominations below: Continue reading

Review: Anonymous (2011)

As this video will explain, the format for my next couple of reviews is going to change. I think it’s safe to say they’re now in ramble form, as what I’m talking about here is all off the top of my head. But, hey, sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of a change. Feedback (as always) will be warmly welcome.
