2012 Saturn Awards – Nominees

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films has announced the nominees for this year’s Saturn Awards. Coming on the tail-end of the Oscars, they almost hold two fingers up to the Academy, nominating the sort of film that wouldn’t usually get a whiff of recognition, all leading to a rather interesting set of nominees. If the presence of Limitless, Thor and The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t get you interested then there’s something wrong with you and check out that Best Supporting Actor category! However, I must warn you that Hugo has a vast dollop of nominations, but it’s alright when there’s so much love for Tintin and a nom for Attack The Block. Check out the full set of nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Alliance Of Women Film Journalists Award Winners

These Awards genuinely crack me up. A mixture of Razzies, Teen Choice and serious, well-thought out nominees, they’re a lot of fun amongst some of the more predictable Awards that have been presented over the past few weeks. There’s a lot of prizes here, ranging from Best Picture to Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent to Kick Ass Award For Best Female Action Star and I’m glad to see wins for Shame, proving (as it rightly should) that it isn’t a sexist film in any way. However, the last Award has to be the best. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

2011 Phoenix Film Critics Society Award Winners

Phoenix stick with the general consensus and vote for The Artist, but break the mold a little by giving Best Actress to Elizabeth Olsen. Actually, they loved The Artist. Check out just how much below: Continue reading

2011 Alliance Of Women Film Journalists Award Nominations

The AWFJ have obviously had a lot of fun with their Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent and Hall Of Shame categories, but aside from that their choices aren’t particularly exciting (although they have opted for both Rickman and Serkis in the Best Supporting slot). Sacrilege occurs further down when naming Drive as a Movie You Wanted To Love But Just Couldn’t, but the Most Egregious Age Difference category is rather amusing. Check out these rather unconventional nominations below: Continue reading

2011 London Film Critics’ Circle Award Nominations

I really like these nominations. Possibly more than any other batch so far, simply because the LFCC have been willing to think OUTSIDE THE BOX. It’s not a hard thing to do, but The Golden Globes (whose nominations I haven’t even posted) could seriously learn a thing or two here. Drive and Tinker Tailor lead the way and more recognition has been given to Margaret and A Separation. The best category has got to be Breakthrough British Filmmaker Of The Year – how would you even start to judge that?! Check out the full list of nominations below: Continue reading

2011 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The BFCA have done two things that make me very happy. They’ve given a hell of a lot of love to Drive (eight nods, in fact) and they’ve nominated Nick Nolte for his absolutely heartbreaking performance in Warrior, a film that will be showcased when I eventually write up my Top Ten of 2011. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been left out entirely which is more than a shock and it’s interesting to see Andy Serkis get yet another nomination for Best Supporting Actor. 2011 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Award Nominations

Next, it’s St. Louis’ turn to have their moment in the limelight. Notice the additions of My Week With Marilyn as a Best Film contender, David Fincher for Best Director and love for Rooney Mara and Saoirse Ronan. The Best Supporting Actor nominees are the most varied we’ve seen so far and I’m loving the Troll Hunter inclusion. Check out the full list of nominees below: Continue reading
