The 64th Writers Guild Of America Awards – Nominations

I’m a little surprised not to see The Ides Of March included here, but I’m loving the inclusion of 50/50 and Win Win. As much as I’ve been perplexed by the amount of love McCarthy’s been getting for her role in Bridesmaids, it’s great to see it recognised here. 2011 Online Film Critics Society Award Nominations

The Online Film Critics Society have one of my favourite Best Supporting Actor selections to date. And their addition of Dunst and Olsen in the Best Actress category definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed. Von Trier gets a Best Director nod – an absolute rarity. If his ‘snubs’ have merely been due to the Cannes confusion, the Academy need to man the hell up. 2011 Alliance Of Women Film Journalists Award Nominations

The AWFJ have obviously had a lot of fun with their Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent and Hall Of Shame categories, but aside from that their choices aren’t particularly exciting (although they have opted for both Rickman and Serkis in the Best Supporting slot). Sacrilege occurs further down when naming Drive as a Movie You Wanted To Love But Just Couldn’t, but the Most Egregious Age Difference category is rather amusing. Check out these rather unconventional nominations below: Continue reading

2011 Utah Film Critics Association Award Winners

It’s official – Utah love Drive. Like, really love Drive. So much so that they’re even willing to give the film the prize for Best Cinematography, resulting in The Tree Of Life having to make do with Runner-up. As much as I love Refn’s film, I can’t quite deal with that… Other interesting choices include Gordon-Levitt for Best Actor and Amy Ryan for Win Win. The rest of it is all pretty straightforward. 2011 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Award Winners

It’s really great to see Drive still firmly in people’s minds, even if only on the periphery in anything other than Best Supporting Actor. The winners here aren’t anything out of the ordinary, but it’s interesting to see Mara rewarded for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and it really does make me think she could have eclipsed Noomi’s Lisbeth. But that’s hard to imagine! Apart from that, check out Alan Rickman’s nod further down with the rest of the winners below: Continue reading

2011 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The BFCA have done two things that make me very happy. They’ve given a hell of a lot of love to Drive (eight nods, in fact) and they’ve nominated Nick Nolte for his absolutely heartbreaking performance in Warrior, a film that will be showcased when I eventually write up my Top Ten of 2011. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been left out entirely which is more than a shock and it’s interesting to see Andy Serkis get yet another nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
