The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards – Nominations

All in all, I’m actually pretty surprised by this year’s SAG nominations. We all know SAG tend to hold more stock than the Golden Globes come Oscar time, but this has me a little confused. No Shailene Woodley? No Albert Brooks? No Oldman or Fassbender? This seems to be a little against the grain. I’m thrilled to bits with Nolte’s nomination and he could have a very good chance, so I’m hoping for an Oscar nod – but we all know I’ve made no secret of that. Other than that, I’m glad to see Chastain’s Best Supporting nod confirmed as for The Help which I think is strongly deserved and both Albert Nobbs and Bridesmaids still appear to be in with a chance. Also, Demian Bichir? Who saw that coming? Check out the nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The BFCA have done two things that make me very happy. They’ve given a hell of a lot of love to Drive (eight nods, in fact) and they’ve nominated Nick Nolte for his absolutely heartbreaking performance in Warrior, a film that will be showcased when I eventually write up my Top Ten of 2011. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been left out entirely which is more than a shock and it’s interesting to see Andy Serkis get yet another nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The Great Trailer Debate – Week 6

What a week! With the insane amount of Awards and nominations over the last two days it’s taken me a little longer than usual to post this. But this is definitely a nice break for me and one that doesn’t include having to write out Michel Hazanavicius’ name over and over and over…… The sad thing is that I can write his name without thinking now. Anyway, back to the trailers. This week Nadine and I (check out her blog here) bring you The Five-Year Engagement, The Lorax, The Darkest Hour, The Cabin In The Woods, Lockout, This Means War, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close (TRAILER OF THE WEEK), The Three Stooges, The Iron Lady, The Lucky One, What To Expect When You’re Expecting and Battleship. Wowzer. Next week brings us something that makes me want to (and I probably will) cry – The Dark Knight Rises. Continue reading

2011 San Diego Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Hello, San Diego calling. Brendan Glesson and Brit Marling? NICK NOLTE? I’m loving this. Stay classy, San Diego. Full list of nominees below: Continue reading

2011 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Award Nominations

Next, it’s St. Louis’ turn to have their moment in the limelight. Notice the additions of My Week With Marilyn as a Best Film contender, David Fincher for Best Director and love for Rooney Mara and Saoirse Ronan. The Best Supporting Actor nominees are the most varied we’ve seen so far and I’m loving the Troll Hunter inclusion. Check out the full list of nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Indiana Film Journalists Association Award Winners

Yep. Sorry, more Awards to discuss. This time it’s the IFJA and they’ve decided to mix things up a little by drawing attention to Ralph Fiennes in the Best Actor category. I’m also liking the inclusion of Viola Davis as Best Supporting here, as I never fully understood why she’s being pushed towards the Best Actress category. Check out the winners below: Continue reading
