Evening Standard British Film Awards – Nominations

BAFTA, you really could have learned one or two things from these nominations. The fact that Best Supporting is rolled into Best Actor/Actress makes for some very interesting choices, very few of which are actually potential Oscar nominees – Branagh and Fassbender, Redgrave, Swinton and possibly Mulligan and Oldman if he’s exceptionally lucky after his pretty unexciting Awards season. But the one main difference is the three nominations for Joanna Hogg’s Archipelago, starring BAFTA Rising Star nominee, Tom Hiddleston. And hello to the overdue acting nods for Colman, Gleeson and Mullan. The addition of a ‘People’s Choice’ Award gives The Smurfs a chance to battle it out against Bridesmaids and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Tell Papa Smurf not to crack the champagne out just yet. 2011 Georgia Film Critics Association Award Winners

Georgia are infatuated with Malick’s The Tree Of Life, handing it six awards here. They are also the first group to give the Best Actress prize to Juliette Binoche for Certified Copy. Naturally I’m also very happy with the Best Ensemble being awarded to the fabulous Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. And yes, Brad Pitt did win twice. Check out Georgia’s faves below: Continue reading

2011 Alliance Of Women Film Journalists Award Winners

These Awards genuinely crack me up. A mixture of Razzies, Teen Choice and serious, well-thought out nominees, they’re a lot of fun amongst some of the more predictable Awards that have been presented over the past few weeks. There’s a lot of prizes here, ranging from Best Picture to Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent to Kick Ass Award For Best Female Action Star and I’m glad to see wins for Shame, proving (as it rightly should) that it isn’t a sexist film in any way. However, the last Award has to be the best. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

2011 National Society Of Film Critics Award Winners

The National Society Of Film Critics apparently speak the truth, once every twelve months. Yes, I think it’s great recognition has been given to The Tree Of Life, Gary Oldman and Margaret, but I can’t say I agree with anyone giving Melancholia the prize for Best Picture. But that’s just me. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

2011 Central Ohio Film Critics Association Award Winners

Central Ohio love Drive. They love Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling and I don’t blame them. I just wish more Associations and Societies were brave enough to give it the attention it deserves. Away from Drive’s wins here, check out the Best Actress category and cheeky little wins for Source Code and Hanna. As ever, check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

The 16th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards – Winners

No War Horse here. And what about The Tree Of Life, the most visually stunning film of the year?! And what was honestly so impressive about the production design of Bridesmaids? Yes, the wedding itself looked pretty cool, but apart from that it was all cakes, giant biscuits and more cakes – and projectile vomiting and diarrhoea. Somehow I don’t think the latter was taken into consideration. It’s good to see Anonymous slipping in there, as there was a great deal to look at and Tintin and The Cap are welcome additions in the fantasy category. Check out the winners below and see if you think predicting the Oscar nominees is any easier: Continue reading

2011 Online Film Critics Society Award Winners

Yes, OFCS, you may collect £200 and pass go. I said last week that I rather loved their nominations and the winners are pretty agreeable too. Swinton and Fassbender’s respective wins are hardly going to upset anybody and it’s great to see The Tree Of Life rein back some of The Artist’s attention. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading
