The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards – Nominations

All in all, I’m actually pretty surprised by this year’s SAG nominations. We all know SAG tend to hold more stock than the Golden Globes come Oscar time, but this has me a little confused. No Shailene Woodley? No Albert Brooks? No Oldman or Fassbender? This seems to be a little against the grain. I’m thrilled to bits with Nolte’s nomination and he could have a very good chance, so I’m hoping for an Oscar nod – but we all know I’ve made no secret of that. Other than that, I’m glad to see Chastain’s Best Supporting nod confirmed as for The Help which I think is strongly deserved and both Albert Nobbs and Bridesmaids still appear to be in with a chance. Also, Demian Bichir? Who saw that coming? Check out the nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Houston Film Critics Society Award Winners

It looks like Houston are following in Las Vegas’ footsteps by giving Refn his second Award for Best Director. There’s nothing too out of the ordinary here apart from The Descendants being chosen as Best Picture (has Hugo’s streak of good luck finally run out?) and the rather inspired Worst Film category. Check out the winners below: Continue reading

2011 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The BFCA have done two things that make me very happy. They’ve given a hell of a lot of love to Drive (eight nods, in fact) and they’ve nominated Nick Nolte for his absolutely heartbreaking performance in Warrior, a film that will be showcased when I eventually write up my Top Ten of 2011. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been left out entirely which is more than a shock and it’s interesting to see Andy Serkis get yet another nomination for Best Supporting Actor. 2011 San Diego Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Hello, San Diego calling. Brendan Glesson and Brit Marling? NICK NOLTE? I’m loving this. Stay classy, San Diego. Full list of nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Indiana Film Journalists Association Award Winners

Yep. Sorry, more Awards to discuss. This time it’s the IFJA and they’ve decided to mix things up a little by drawing attention to Ralph Fiennes in the Best Actor category. I’m also liking the inclusion of Viola Davis as Best Supporting here, as I never fully understood why she’s being pushed towards the Best Actress category. 2011 Houston Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Ok. This is the end of a very long day in regards to Awards and nominations. But Houston is a very interesting place to finish as it’s thrown a couple of real curveballs. And they lie mainly in the Best Supporting Actor category. Say hello to Andy Serkis, Alex Shaffer and Armie Hammer. Melissa McCarthy still seems to be popping up left right and centre. Don’t know quite how I feel about that. Check out the full nominees below: Continue reading
