The National Society Of Film Critics apparently speak the truth, once every twelve months. Yes, I think it’s great recognition has been given to The Tree Of Life, Gary Oldman and Margaret, but I can’t say I agree with anyone giving Melancholia the prize for Best Picture. 2011 London Film Critics’ Circle Award Nominations

I really like these nominations. Possibly more than any other batch so far, simply because the LFCC have been willing to think OUTSIDE THE BOX. It’s not a hard thing to do, but The Golden Globes (whose nominations I haven’t even posted) could seriously learn a thing or two here. Drive and Tinker Tailor lead the way and more recognition has been given to Margaret and A Separation. 2011 Toronto Film Critics Association Award Winners

So, is Tintin technically ‘animated’ or not? Toronto seem to think so. Take Shelter gets Jessica Chastain a Best Supporting win here, which is interesting as I would have the Academy more likely to nominate her for The Help. Michael Shannon is also rewarded for his role, Malick earns more points for Best Picture and Best Director, but it’s Christopher Plummer who finally gets another win for Beginners.
