London Film Critics’ Circle Award Winners

Anna Paquin. Wow. London truly has spoken and I am so, so thrilled for the team behind Margaret for this.

When the nominations were released I said how excited they made me. This was proved after the BAFTA shortlist was released and made me realise just how much more the LFCC, BIFA and The Evening Standard Film Awards seemed to be celebrating homegrown talented as opposed to the alleged BRITISH, BAFTAS.

But I must make the point that I am more than happy with all the love The Artist is getting – it’s utterly charming and I haven’t had a smile on my face that big in the cinema for a very long time. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

Evening Standard British Film Awards – Nominations

BAFTA, you really could have learned one or two things from these nominations. The fact that Best Supporting is rolled into Best Actor/Actress makes for some very interesting choices, very few of which are actually potential Oscar nominees – Branagh and Fassbender, Redgrave, Swinton and possibly Mulligan and Oldman if he’s exceptionally lucky after his pretty unexciting Awards season. But the one main difference is the three nominations for Joanna Hogg’s Archipelago, starring BAFTA Rising Star nominee, Tom Hiddleston. And hello to the overdue acting nods for Colman, Gleeson and Mullan. The addition of a ‘People’s Choice’ Award gives The Smurfs a chance to battle it out against Bridesmaids and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Tell Papa Smurf not to crack the champagne out just yet. 2011 Alliance Of Women Film Journalists Award Winners

These Awards genuinely crack me up. A mixture of Razzies, Teen Choice and serious, well-thought out nominees, they’re a lot of fun amongst some of the more predictable Awards that have been presented over the past few weeks. There’s a lot of prizes here, ranging from Best Picture to Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent to Kick Ass Award For Best Female Action Star and I’m glad to see wins for Shame, proving (as it rightly should) that it isn’t a sexist film in any way. However, the last Award has to be the best. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

Please check out the transcript of the Q&A I attended last night on Shame. It was a really interesting insight into the project and the process that went with it. But be advised – it’s heavy spoiler material. Shame is out on Friday, so once you’ve seen it, check back here and read the Q&A. All you need to do is click here!
