The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards – Nominations

All in all, I’m actually pretty surprised by this year’s SAG nominations. We all know SAG tend to hold more stock than the Golden Globes come Oscar time, but this has me a little confused. No Shailene Woodley? No Albert Brooks? No Oldman or Fassbender? This seems to be a little against the grain. I’m thrilled to bits with Nolte’s nomination and he could have a very good chance, so I’m hoping for an Oscar nod – but we all know I’ve made no secret of that. Other than that, I’m glad to see Chastain’s Best Supporting nod confirmed as for The Help which I think is strongly deserved and both Albert Nobbs and Bridesmaids still appear to be in with a chance. Also, Demian Bichir? Who saw that coming? Check out the nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Las Vegas Film Critics Society Award Winners

Las Vegas have chosen their winners and it’s all about Drive and The Artist, with Refn winning his first Best Director Award of the campaign – cheers Las Vegas. Melissa McCarthy gets another win for Bridesmaids and it doesn’t look like her run’s going to stop just yet. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

2011 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The BFCA have done two things that make me very happy. They’ve given a hell of a lot of love to Drive (eight nods, in fact) and they’ve nominated Nick Nolte for his absolutely heartbreaking performance in Warrior, a film that will be showcased when I eventually write up my Top Ten of 2011. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been left out entirely which is more than a shock and it’s interesting to see Andy Serkis get yet another nomination for Best Supporting Actor. 2011 Houston Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Ok. This is the end of a very long day in regards to Awards and nominations. But Houston is a very interesting place to finish as it’s thrown a couple of real curveballs. And they lie mainly in the Best Supporting Actor category. Say hello to Andy Serkis, Alex Shaffer and Armie Hammer. Melissa McCarthy still seems to be popping up left right and centre. Don’t know quite how I feel about that. Check out the full nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Detroit Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Best Director nods for both Drive and Take Shelter? This is my kind of Society!! It’s all pretty straight forward, but Detroit obviously love Gosling as they’ve given him recognition in the Best Supporting category for Crazy, Stupid, Love, bizarrely. It’s also interesting how it’s Felicity Jones and not Elizabeth Olsen who is included in both Best Breakthrough and Best Actress, but I’m expecting the love for Olsen to grow come January. As always, check below for the full list of nominations:

2011 New York Film Critics Online Award Winners

I have to admit that I’m preferring the Awards that don’t feature quite so heavily in regards to The Artist, but hey, I’m just being difficult. Great to see Michael Shannon get some proper recognition here and also very happy to see Albert Brooks continuing today’s little run of wins. But I’m mainly happy about Tintin’s prize, even if it is hard to truly decide whether it is ‘Animated’ or not. Check out the winners in full below: Continue reading

2011 Boston Society Of Film Critics Award Winners

Last year the Boston Society of Film Critics gave Juliette Lewis the Best Supporting Actress prize for Conviction. It’s nice to see they’ve kept their originality in a few categories this year. But check out the love for Margaret! Unfortunately there was only one screening of the film and lots of the voters missed out on it. Hopefully this will change come January?
