London Critics’ Circle Award Winners

Screen Shot 2013-01-22 at 17.37.39

It’s an Amour love-in for the London Critics’ Circle. And the rest of the winners are rather lovely, too, even if the acting wins are for the most part on a par with what we’ve already seen during this year’s Oscar Race.

But London felt it was right to applaud Rust And Bone, The Imposter and Berberian Sound Studio which the Oscar nominations left out completely, with recognition also going to the wonderful Andrea Riseborough.

With a couple of other well-deserved wins for British talent, check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

I Should Probably Post These Oscar Nominations, Then

OSCARS-2013

Seeing as everyone was a little Oscar’d out yesterday, I thought I’d wait until today to put these up. I’m not going to say too much, as I think I exhausted my point over on Twitter (@iamnotwaynegale) and said everything I wanted to when predicting my nominations here.

‘Snubs’ aside, all I’ll say is that I’m absolutely thrilled for Benh Zeitlin and little Quvenzhané and really pleased Eiko Ishioka gets a fitting tribute.

Fed Up Of People Talking About The BAFTA Nominations Yet?

Screen Shot 2013-01-09 at 16.11.47

Now, I’m sure you’re pretty sick and tired of hearing peoples’ two cents on today’s BAFTA nominations and how they might correlate with tomorrow’s (well, today now) Oscar nominations, yadda yadda, blah blah blahhh.

So I’m simply going to post the list of nominations below with no preamble. That can come with whatever tomorrow’s Academy Award nominations bring!

Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award Winners

Screen Shot 2013-01-08 at 19.37.42

And just after I mentioned how The Master seemed a little lacklustre in my last post, it takes Best Actor, Supporting Actor and Actress from Vancouver. But it’s still all about Zero Dark Thirty and the wrath of Bigelow, taking four awards from this set of Canadian voters. And this is very much a Canadian affair, with some awards simply for homegrown talent – loving the Sarah Gadon win.

Critic Circle Update: Because I Got Slack, And That.

San Francisco, Satellite Awards, Chicago, St. Louis, Indiana, Toronto, Florida, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Austin, Black Film Critics, Utah, Dublin, Women Films Circle – I feel I may have neglected you slightly.

With thirteen different lists of winners to report back on, well, I’ll keep it brief, but a list of Best Picture, Director, all four Acting winners, Best Screenplays, Cinematography, Documentary, Animation and Foreign Film can be found below.

It’s mainly all about Zero Dark Thirty and Daniel Day-Lewis as expected, but there are some interesting wins to pick up on (namely thanks to Toronto) and prizes to whoever finds The Artist hidden within.

2012 Houston Film Critics Society Nominations

Houston, you’re so boring. Apart from including Cloud Atlas, Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and the wonderful Matthew McConaughey, I guess. But maybe I’m just bitter because you nominated Anna Karenina for Worst Film of 2012.

2012 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Nominations

screen-shot-2011-12-12-at-21-20-57

St. Louis loves a bit of Tarantino!

There’s a little bit more breathing space away from the usual suspects in this batch of nominations, with Moonrise Kingdom getting a lot of very deserved nods and a few more interesting people popping up in the Acting categories, including Aubrey Plaza, Jamie Foxx, John Goodman, William H. Macy and Emma Watson.

There’s also the inclusion of Best Arthouse or Festival Film and Best Scene, but as for Best Comedy, Ted can definitely bore off.

2012 Detroit Film Critics Society Nominations

Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 23.07.30

Ahh, finally. Something a little more refreshing.

David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook leads the nominations, with Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz also a big Detroit favourite.

There’s a lot to look at here, with a good dollop of nominations for The Impossible and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, as well as the ever-deserving Matthew McConaughey once again in the mix.

With Bill Murray, Greta Gerwig, Rebel Wilson and Ezra Miller also popping up, take a look at the full list of nominations below: Continue reading

2012 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award Winners

Screen Shot 2012-12-11 at 23.00.58

I don’t know if I ever truly buy into the whole ‘runner-up’ business, as it forms a bit of a backhanded compliment. But if we’re to read into them, The Master appears to reign supreme what with its wins for Phoenix, Adams, Anderson and ‘prize’ of runner-up to Haneke’s Amour in the Best Picture category.

Elsewhere, Beasts Of The Southern Wild keeps afloat with wins for Best Supporting Actor, Score and the LAFCA’s ‘New Generation’ accolade for Zeitlin. Oh, and congratulations to William Goldenberg for managing to beat himself to the prize for Best Editing. Impressive.
