I Should Probably Post These Oscar Nominations, Then

OSCARS-2013

Seeing as everyone was a little Oscar’d out yesterday, I thought I’d wait until today to put these up. I’m not going to say too much, as I think I exhausted my point over on Twitter (@iamnotwaynegale) and said everything I wanted to when predicting my nominations here.

‘Snubs’ aside, all I’ll say is that I’m absolutely thrilled for Benh Zeitlin and little Quvenzhané and really pleased Eiko Ishioka gets a fitting tribute.

2012 Boston Society Of Film Critics Winners

Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 00.08.23

Hello, Ezra Miller.

Definitely a more than welcome addition to this relatively straightforward batch of winners, I personally feel he was robbed of Award attention for 2011’s We Need To Talk About Kevin – the ever vigilant BIFA nominated him, however.

Though his nomination here is certain to keep the race unchanged, and though it would also be nice to see the fearless Logan Lerman receive some recognition, this is the only real talking point from Boston’s Oscar-ready candidates.

2012 New York Film Critics Circle Winners

It’s bongo time again, kids.

Matthew McConaughey walks away with yet another prize, this time for his work in both Bernie and Magic Mike. But that’s not the main point of interest here, with Rachel Weisz winning Best Actress for The Deep Blue Sea and Zero Dark Thirty taking away three on the night.

It’s nice to see a fresh bunch of winners alongside the frontrunners, but Zero Dark Thirty is set to be a very strong contender in the lead up to February 24th.

2012 Gotham Independent Film Award Winners

Screen Shot 2012-12-05 at 04.41.58

The 2012 Gotham Independent Film Awards were held on November 26th and provided more steam for Moonrise Kingdom and Benh Zeitlin’s engines, which is something I am very happy to see.

Teeny, tiny little Quvenzhané Wallis may have missed out on Breakthrough Actor and Your Sister’s Sister may have beat off stiff competition in the form of Moonrise Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook to take the prize for Best Ensemble, but with so few awards to hand out on the night, there’s not much room for surprise.

Cinema Eye Honors Award Nominations

Hot on the heels of the International Documentary Association, the Cinema Eye Honors have released their nominees, with The Imposter and Searching For Sugar Man leading the way in what is certain to be a very busy Oscar run-up for them both.

Hello, I’m Back (AKA A Quick Awards Season Catch Up)

Right. Let’s get back to business.

With Awards Season itching to accelerate into full gear, my acquisition of a new laptop (yes, that’s right, I have been without one since Edinburgh…) comes at just the right time.

What have I kept you in the dark over, you cry? Well, not a lot to be honest, apart from the burning question of which of the powerhouse American trifecta made up of MacFarlane, Fey and Poehler will manage to fit Shot Scorsese into their presenting duties. Oh, and Beasts Of The Southern Wild is ineligible for the SAG Awards because the little bundle of joy that is Quvenzhane Wallis isn’t a ‘professional actor’, which definitely sucks.

So, to wrap up and bring you the start of what will be a very post-heavy Awards Season, here’s the 2012 Gotham Independent Film Award nominees, BFI London Film Festival winners and the International Documentary Association Award nominees: Continue reading
