Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 23.07.30

Ahh, finally. Something a little more refreshing.

David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook leads the nominations, with Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz also a big Detroit favourite.

There’s a lot to look at here, with a good dollop of nominations for The Impossible and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, as well as the ever-deserving Matthew McConaughey once again in the mix.

With Bill Murray, Greta Gerwig, Rebel Wilson and Ezra Miller also popping up, take a look at the full list of nominations below: Continue reading

2012 Boston Society Of Film Critics Winners

Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 00.08.23

Hello, Ezra Miller.

Definitely a more than welcome addition to this relatively straightforward batch of winners, I personally feel he was robbed of Award attention for 2011’s We Need To Talk About Kevin – the ever vigilant BIFA nominated him, however.

Though his nomination here is certain to keep the race unchanged, and though it would also be nice to see the fearless Logan Lerman receive some recognition, this is the only real talking point from Boston’s Oscar-ready candidates.

If you want to remain relatively unsurprised, check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

The Great Trailer Debate – Week 1

Trailers come and trailers go and, to be fair, a lot of people don’t watch them unless they happen to be spliced onto the front of whatever film you’ve gone to see at the cinema. But that couldn’t be further from the truth in regards to Nadine (find her blog here) and I. So, we’ve decided to bring you The Great Trailer Debate, a bitesize and easy to digest way of glancing over what the week’s had to offer. This week we cover Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, ParaNorman, The Lorax, Shame, American Reunion, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Wanderlust, Underworld Awakening, Safe House and 21 Jump Street. And remember – a good trailer doesn’t necessarily bring us a good film. Continue reading

The 2011 BIFA Nominations

And so here starts Awards season.

Admit it, we all felt it looming. From the minute Tinker Tailor came out complete with best of British, we were all secretly wondering who’d be up for the big ones come January 2012. Who would be the one chosen for Best Supporting – Hardy or Cumberbatch? Or neither? Would Gary Oldman finally get his horrifically overdue nomination? But many of us have been quietly making our Academy Award predictions for months now. For those that saw Drive back in August, what of Albert Brooks? That same month, Warrior gave us a possibility in the form of Nick Nolte. And now with trailers for War Horse, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close, The Descendants, J. Edgar, My Week With Marilyn, Coriolanus and Albert Nobbs etc, etc, etc, coming in thick and fast, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little giddy with excitement – and the potential bragging rights that come with guessing the most winners correctly.
