2012 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Nominations

screen-shot-2011-12-12-at-21-20-57

St. Louis loves a bit of Tarantino!

There’s a little bit more breathing space away from the usual suspects in this batch of nominations, with Moonrise Kingdom getting a lot of very deserved nods and a few more interesting people popping up in the Acting categories, including Aubrey Plaza, Jamie Foxx, John Goodman, William H. Macy and Emma Watson.

There’s also the inclusion of Best Arthouse or Festival Film and Best Scene, but as for Best Comedy, Ted can definitely bore off.

2013 Film Independent Spirit Award Nominations

Screen Shot 2012-12-05 at 05.07.47

Sound the bongos – it’s a double nomination for Matthew McConaughey.

Jack Black’s nomination for Bernie is surely set to keep him ontrack for a Golden Globe nod and Emayatzy Corinealdi returns to contest Little Miss Hushpuppy once more, making it pretty clear that we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Middle Of Nowhere star before the season’s through.

Brit Marling gets some love, as does The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and Ruby Sparks, but you can always trust the Spirit Awards to dig up something a little different and nominate those who often go unseen for the rest of the season, so check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

My broken arm calls for a slightly different (and bitesize) reviewing format. So here’s ten things I want to say about Moonrise Kingdom: Continue reading

Trailer Talk: My Big Fat Marvelgasm, Claymation Ghosts, The Hoff And Disney’s Attempt At Dubstep

I love this week’s selection of trailers, which you may find surprising seeing how I’ve actually been a little harsh towards some – very unlike me, I know. But there’s such a brilliant mix to choose from, including some great animation, thrillers, comedy and some not so great ones. But hey, that’s all part of the fun. This week Nadine and I look at (deep breath please) The Stath, the supernatural, that pesky John Carter again, more Marvel characters than you can shake a stick at, David Hasselhoff, Snoop Stiller, Adam Sandler’s weird career, a resurrected canine, little yellow minions, morticians, American Football, claymation ghosts, John McClane and Superman, coming of age indie quirkiness and Norwegian murders. Let’s talk trailers: Continue reading

Gangsters, Turtle on a plane, cows, Mel Gibson in Mexico, the end of reality TV, improv and drugs, the Welsh and Bowie, a double helping of Sigourney Weaver and Dexter Fletcher’s directorial debut – let’s talk trailers: Continue reading

This week we see another ensemble piece courtesy of Wes Anderson, the Bridesmaids cast reunite for Friends With Kids, Disney go 3D (again), Eva Mendes as a bad mother, Will Ferrell go crazy in subtitles, someone brush their teeth and smoke at the same time, James Franco channel another writer and Miley Cyrus piss off Demi Moore. Let’s talk trailers: Continue reading
