The 64th Writers Guild Of America Awards – Nominations

I’m a little surprised not to see The Ides Of March included here, but I’m loving the inclusion of 50/50 and Win Win. As much as I’ve been perplexed by the amount of love McCarthy’s been getting for her role in Bridesmaids, it’s great to see it recognised here. The 16th Annual Art Directors Guild Awards – Winners

No War Horse here. And what about The Tree Of Life, the most visually stunning film of the year?! And what was honestly so impressive about the production design of Bridesmaids? Yes, the wedding itself looked pretty cool, but apart from that it was all cakes, giant biscuits and more cakes – and projectile vomiting and diarrhoea. Somehow I don’t think the latter was taken into consideration. It’s good to see Anonymous slipping in there, as there was a great deal to look at and Tintin and The Cap are welcome additions in the fantasy category. Check out the winners below and see if you think predicting the Oscar nominees is any easier: Continue reading

2012 Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award Nominations

Time to move to Canada. Vancouver have constructed their noms a little differently, opting for a less conventional three in each category (aside from Best Documentary and Best Screenplay). This has resulted in the inclusion of Fassbender and Shannon alongside Dujardin, with Olsen replacing what can only have been Swinton’s slot. We also see Melissa McCarthy pop up once more for Bridesmaids. I’m still a little confused by this… Check out the full list of nominees below: Continue reading

2011 Online Film Critics Society Award Nominations

The Online Film Critics Society have one of my favourite Best Supporting Actor selections to date. And their addition of Dunst and Olsen in the Best Actress category definitely hasn’t gone unnoticed. Von Trier gets a Best Director nod – an absolute rarity. If his ‘snubs’ have merely been due to the Cannes confusion, the Academy need to man the hell up. 2011 Alliance Of Women Film Journalists Award Nominations

The AWFJ have obviously had a lot of fun with their Actress Most In Need Of A New Agent and Hall Of Shame categories, but aside from that their choices aren’t particularly exciting (although they have opted for both Rickman and Serkis in the Best Supporting slot). Sacrilege occurs further down when naming Drive as a Movie You Wanted To Love But Just Couldn’t, but the Most Egregious Age Difference category is rather amusing. Check out these rather unconventional nominations below: Continue reading

2011 Women Film Critics Circle Award Winners

These Awards are different. Definitely different. I like to think of the members of the WFCC sitting at a bar one night, dreaming up all the respective categories. But it does shine a light on a couple of less well known films and is probably the only Awards to ever include Dame Judi in a negative way. Check out the full list of winners below: Continue reading

2011 St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association Award Winners

It’s really great to see Drive still firmly in people’s minds, even if only on the periphery in anything other than Best Supporting Actor. The winners here aren’t anything out of the ordinary, but it’s interesting to see Mara rewarded for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and it really does make me think she could have eclipsed Noomi’s Lisbeth. But that’s hard to imagine! Apart from that, check out Alan Rickman’s nod further down with the rest of the winners below: Continue reading
