2011 Broadcast Film Critics Association Award Nominations

The BFCA have done two things that make me very happy. They’ve given a hell of a lot of love to Drive (eight nods, in fact) and they’ve nominated Nick Nolte for his absolutely heartbreaking performance in Warrior, a film that will be showcased when I eventually write up my Top Ten of 2011. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy has been left out entirely which is more than a shock and it’s interesting to see Andy Serkis get yet another nomination for Best Supporting Actor. 2011 Houston Film Critics Society Award Nominations

Ok. This is the end of a very long day in regards to Awards and nominations. But Houston is a very interesting place to finish as it’s thrown a couple of real curveballs. And they lie mainly in the Best Supporting Actor category. Say hello to Andy Serkis, Alex Shaffer and Armie Hammer. Melissa McCarthy still seems to be popping up left right and centre. 2011 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award Winners

I’m going to be pretentious for a second and show my love for The Tree Of Life’s wins. I bloody loved that film (read my review here) and am glad someone sided with Malick for Best Director. It totally deserves its wins for Cinematography, but something tells me it won’t all play out how I want come January. Also so glad with the amount of recognition Jessica Chastain is getting for her insanely impressive breakout year – and checkout the cheeky nod to X-Men: First Class in regards to Fassbender. Love it. It’s only really the winners for Best Film and Best Actress that are surprises, with a nice shout in regards to Best Screenplay.
